M.Ed. Specialized in Developmental Attachment and Chronic Stress in Children
This journey started for me in my 6th year of teaching when I had a classroom of students who’s social emotional well-being and developmental needs outweighed their academic needs. I started to recognize the power of connection and relationship on their emotional well-being and how my student’s abilities to contribute to the classroom community reflected in those relationships. At the same time, I was about to have my second child and was learning about all the challenges of parenting. I recognized the societal pressures that parents face and I often felt the need push back on expectation and do some things differently.
While pregnant with my 2nd child, I started my Masters of Education in Educational Psychology and Leadership where I explored science of Child Developmental Psychology and the impacts that Adverse Childhood Experiences had on development.
I have spent 4 years of my teaching career as the Behaviour Resource Teacher for my school district and continued to learn from my favorite child psychologists; Ross Greene, Chuck Geddes, Gordon Neufeld and Jody Carrington, among others.
I have since returned to classroom teaching, while also contracting to Complex Trauma Resources, a British Columbian company supporting schools and families across the province with children who have experienced complex trauma or chronic stress.
I strongly believe that every child deserves to feel the power of unconditional love, and that every caregiver deserves to be empowered with the understanding of “right relationships” and child development.
